Skadden Scholar Publishes Book Review

Natasha Levy, a current Skadden scholar in Cohort 6, published a review of Denis A. Spellberg’s Thomas Jefferson’s Qur’an: Islam and the Founding Fathers in the Journal of Islamic Law and Culture at the University of Arkansas. Levy notes that Jefferson owned a copy of the Qur’an and defended the religious freedom of Muslims in the United States, although he did not agree with their views. “Perhaps the conservatives and religious groups who propagate the claim that President Barack Obama is a Muslim would be interested to know the revered Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence, was also accused of following the religion of Islam in his 1800 presidency campaign against John Adams,” Levy writes.
